The Bohle family has a long association
with the bicycle sector; in fact over 70 years ago the great
uncle of Ralf Bohle, the present group chairman, was a co-founder
of world renowned, bicycle manufacturer "J. A. Phillips
& Co. Ltd", based in Birmingham, so links with the
United Kingdom go back a long way. The present company, Ralf
Bohle & Co GmbH, has been in the two wheel tyre business
for over 30 years and was the first specialist company of its
type involved in technology transfer with far eastern manufacturing
partners.
Since 1973 the activities of the group have been concentrated
solely on the wheelchair, bicycle and industrial tyre market
by providing its own brands of SCHWALBE, IMPAC and TRAX tyres.
In collaboration with its Asian production partners, clients
can count on Bohle's designs and particular German demands on
product quality, production techniques and safety.
The group head office and distribution centre, situated 40 minutes
to the east of Cologne, services the European two wheel and
wheelchair industries from its 140,000 sq.ft. warehouse complex,
which houses 5 million tubes and 3.5 million tyres. Bohle -
France and Bohle - Italia, its worldwide official distributors
and subsidiary companies in Holland and the U.K. combine to
make Bohle, Europe's largest stockist of tyres and tubes for
the two wheel and wheelchair markets with annual sales exceeding
$50 million.
Bohe UK Ltd
The company started life in 1985 as Double J (Midlands)
Ltd., which was set up to specialise in the supply of parts
to the wheelchair and bicycle industries, by its present Managing
Director, Philip Taylor and his brother, whose background had
been in bicycle manufacturing. Expansion of the business necessitated
the move to its current premises, comprising of offices and
18,ooo sq. ft. industrial unit on a 2.5 acre site, in 1990.
The company was renamed "Bohle UK Limited" in 1995
when RaIf Bohle GmbH purchased it.
The wheelchair parts product range has been developed and knowledge
of the wheelchair industry was enhanced by the setting up of
a wheelchair reconditioning section. From it's inception the
insight, quickly gained at firsthand, of the needs of wheelchair
conditioners, highlighted the priority to provide a more comprehensive
range of quality wheelchair parts, quickly, efficiently and,
of course, competitively priced to wheelchair repairers and
manufacturers who had long suffered from delivery delays.
Bohle UK is a fully registered IS09002 company, so each part
outsourced or assembled locally is tested to conform to current
standards with a continuing programme of supplier and product
development.
